Elon Musk’s young DOGE engineer describes how he won the $700K Vesuvius Challenge

The latest news coming to  Washington, D.C. from Silicon Valley is a form of fresh-faced engineers supposedly running the government. The Wired report said that Elon Musk had calmly selected at least six engineers. The oldest of which is reportedly 24 and helps him to run his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The secrecy of these groups is there is inexperience of the identified six, which drew ire from the Washington establishment. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated on Tuesday.

“The American people will not stand for an unelected secret group to run rampant through the executive branch,”.

These six new mysteries reportedly all are under the age of 25, hence their digital footprints are limited. Musk has even stated that publicly naming these men was “a crime,”. His statement left the entire country wondering who these young people are and what motivates them to do the work.

Working on the Vesuvius Challenge was Luke Farritor, a 21-year-old “regular computer science major” at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Nat Friedman, an AI investor, is leading the effort to employ AI to read ancient texts. Like many young men in the Peter Thiel-verse, Farritor was a Thiel Fellow, courteous (he called me “ma’am”), prone to digressions about ancient civilizations, and devoted above all to technology.

I didn’t ask, for example, what strategies he would employ to overthrow the federal government if he were ever called upon to do so because our discussion was mostly focused on the Vesuvius Challenge. Farritor did stress, however, that the project demonstrated to him the power of coding and how technology allowed him to resolve an issue that had baffled specialists.
