In a message posted to its website on Wednesday, Sonos revealed that it has fired off 200 employees. The announcement comes after a layoff of 100 employees in August. Both rounds follow a disastrously poorly executed update to the Sonos app that alienated large segments of the devoted fan base of the high-end audio gear company.
Tom Conrad, the original CTO of Pandora and the company’s temporary CEO following Patrick Spence’s resignation in January, wrote the new letter.
Conrad clearly states that the company’s size led to a breakdown in communication, writing, “One thing I’ve observed firsthand is that we’ve become mired in too many layers that have made collaboration and decision-making harder than it needs to be.”
After a few delays, some reports surfaced Tuesday that Sonos is preparing the release of a new set-top box/home hub, codenamed “Pinewood.” At present it going through beta testing and the system is reportedly set for a 2025 release and the price will be between $200 and $400.
